About Your Mercury Claim
Established through legislation in 1985, the Mercury Disability Board supports the application and assessment processes used to determine mercury-related claim eligibility connected to the Wabigoon River. The Board’s role is to promote fairness and ensure community‑focused access to necessary health assessments.
Band Members and affiliates of Grassy Narrows (ASUBPEESHOSEEWAGONG) and Whitedog (WABASEEMOONG) can apply online, or by mail.

Applications submitted to the MDB will be processed and you will receive a letter in the mail letting you know your application status.
If your application is approved, the MDB will contact you by phone with next steps.
You and/or your child, will then attend 2 assessments, with a medical professional, specially trained in the effects of mercury to discuss your overall health, and quality of life.
After, a scoring doctor will receive your file, with your name removed, and assign a score carefully considering your overall health and any additional documents you choose to submit for review.
If your score is more than 6, you will become entitled to benefits. Claimants
scoring over 12 (children/youth) or 16
for adults (16yrs+) will receive maximum benefits.
Your file then travels to the insurance trust that holds the claim funds for distribution.

Pediatric Medical Assessments
If you cannot attend your appointment(s) for any reason, please contact the MDB as it may effect your priority sequence.
Though the MDB will contact you by phone to arrange assessments, you will not be able to book an appointment by calling our office. When an appointment becomes available to you, the MDB will contact you directly to confirm your assessment(s) time(s) and location(s).
